Lambton College Named Entrepreneurship National Champion
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA (May 10, 2017): Students from Lambton College are working with local Zambians to increase their crop yields by educating them on no-till farming techniques, while simultaneously empowering them to train fellow farmers. They also built a peanut butter production facility to move Zambian farmers up the value chain and reduce malnutrition in the region.
Enactus Lambton College has been named the 2017 TD Entrepreneurship Challenge National Champion by this country’s largest student leadership development organization, Enactus Canada, and proud supporter TD Bank Group. The national competition took place at the 2017 Enactus Canada National Exposition in Vancouver.
This year, Enactus Lambton trained over 6,000 new farmers. Their yields are now also 3-5 times greater than traditional yields. Through their Hippy Peanut Butter Project, 13 new jobs have been created and jars of peanut butter are being sold at a price that will provide farmers revenue of $6,000 per hectare.
The TD Entrepreneurship Challenge is a national competition that empowers post-secondary students to develop and deliver projects that teach relevant entrepreneurship skills to aspiring and existing entrepreneurs. Since 2007, 14,996 students have exposed 105,869 people to entrepreneurship as a viable career path and have positively impacted 17,182 entrepreneurs.
“The Enactus Lambton College team embodies our global network’s purpose of enabling progress through entrepreneurial action,” said Nicole Almond, Enactus Canada president. “Their ability to empower and enhance the lives of others is changing Zambia for the better.”
The 2017 Enactus Canada National Exposition welcomed 1,500 delegates including the country’s brightest university and college students, academic professionals and top Canadian CEOs supporting entrepreneurial action through competition, recognition and education.
